Dillon Toyne was born in the autumn of 1966, in the historic city of York, to working-class parents. Growing up during the social upheavals of the 1960s, 1970s and 80s he was eventually labelled an anarchist by those outraged at his unconventional approach to the world. However, unlike what his opponents would have you believe, politically, sexually and culturally Dillon tends to drive on the left. Nonetheless, this left leaning did not prevent Dillon from attending that established establishment Queen Mary and Westfield College to study modern history. Having achieved a BA, and under-gone his very own 40 days in the wilderness, Dillon took a Master's in Intellectual & Cultural History, before beginning a writing career in 2001, with the now defunct Pur, a monthly CDzine. Finally, after several years of scribbling and several more magazines, Dillon decided he'd had enough, writing about sexual deviants was actually very boring and he slightly changed direction, running for 18 months the UK subsidiary of a German-based website, GayRoyal, the second largest sexual deviants' dating site in Europe. Needless to say, this didn't last long and Dillon again changed direction further, entering the glamorous and surreal world of musical entertainment, thankfully not as a performer more an arranger of stuff. Inevitably with such a difficult industry Dillon became acutely disillusioned with massaging fragile egos and so turned his attention to the world around him and became a garden guerrilla on the Lubtekin designed, 1960s built, Cranbrook estate in Tower Hamlets, east London. Beginning his campaign to transform the home of Little Britain'sLou and Andy into a garden of Eden, Dillon created the Cranbrook Community Food Garden so he and his fellow residents could freely induldge in the whole organic, green, sustainable, empirically and environmentally sound experience. Acknowledging his anarchic roots and his love of Harold Wilson this culturally intellectual garden guerrilla is nowadays kept busy making a difference to those who live in and around the Cranbrook estate and is striving towards spreading his weltanschauung far and wide.
Dillon lives with his Weimaraner Bella, in a 12th floor "pent-house-apartment", which overlooks the 2012 Olympic Stadium in east London. Over the next few years he is undertaking a major refurbishment of his abode and has finally finished phase 1, a major kitchen refit. Already he has moved on to the second phase, a wardrobe extension and bedroom remodelling, which will be followed in 2010 with a main reception overhaul and an entrance-hall/diner refurb, completing the penultimate phase, a bath/utility-room upgrade, and concluding with a big boy's toy, a ceiling-suspended model railway with real steam trains, how exciting and who knows maybe one day some miniture humans. Meglomania ala Hornby stylee.
What then for Dillon? Will 2012 be a turning point or just his forty-sixth year of existence. Answers by email, mark the subject line: What's occurring?
BTW those who plagarize my words when one day they write my obituary, DON'T you dare you lazy f****** thief!
